I am happy to be a part of this community. I have been looking for a climbing community to discuss climbing equipment and techniques for years, but many seem very niche into their particular part of the sport. It is nice to have an open community for all aspects of climbing.
A little background on myself, I have been formally climbing since 2003, when I started sport climbing with a Boy Scout group. We had gone to a local abandoned quarry to climb a rock cliff about 40 feet high. It wasn’t the hardest things to climb, but I was hooked. As I got older, I even became a climbing merit badge instructor to share my knowledge and experience.
Since that time, I also became active with a fire department and search & rescue team. This allowed me to be certified in high angle rope access and rescue.
In 2012, I moved to Estonia. Here there are far fewer places to climb than I was use to in the US, but that has not stopped me from finding places to climb. I still play in trees and have found cliffs near the sea that offer a decent place to climb. Bouldering is much more common here, so I have also picked this up along the way.
A few years ago, I even built my own climbing wall that I take to summer camps and events to offer climbing in places that don’t have this available. Kids love it as this is not something they would normally expect to see or experience. I have been bringing this wall to events all around the country for the last 3 summers and expect to continue into the future.
